Thai Setter Ponpoon Withdraws Application for Asian Quarter
An official from the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) said in a call with Sports Today on the 29th, “Phone Poon withdrew his application for a tryout in the Asian quarter on the evening of the 28th.”
According to the volleyball community, Ponpoon is likely to go to the United States.
A KOVO official said, “Phone Poon will not be able to participate in the Asian quarter tryout until 2025 according to the regulations.”
Ponpoon was selected by IBK Industrial Bank of Korea as the first overall pick in the 2023 KOVO Women’s Asian Quarter Draft. In the 2023-2024 season, Ponpoon served as the main setter for IBK Industrial Bank, ranking sixth in the league set (10.2 per set).
Industrial Bank of Korea has vacated its main setter position as Ponpoon left, and the possibility of reinforcing its setter position in the Asian quarter has increased.
Meanwhile, KOVO will hold a 2024 KOVO women’s Asian Quarter Tri-Out at Halla Gymnasium and Sun Hotel in Jeju from today (29th) to May 1. This time, a total of 35 players will participate in the try-out, including five players from the Asian Quarter last season and 30 invited players. Of the 35 players in total, five are setters.
