Libero Song Min-geun (24) helped Slovenia’s strongest team Ljubljana achieve its historical achievement.
Ljubljana defeated Kamnik 3-2 (30:28 24:26 25:20 22:25 15:12) in the third home game of the men’s volleyball first division championship game of Slovenia on April 25 (Korea time). She won the title with a total of three games.
Slovenia is considered ninth in the European Volleyball Federation (CEV) league. Ljubljana has won the title for the third time in a row and 20th time in her career since the 2021/22 season.
Song joined Ljubljana as a loan player in December last year. In the playoffs, he was deployed to the first and second quarterfinals and the first final to support his win.
Slovenia, which does not have a separate federation like Korea, manages the federation from the association to the league. According to the final statistics of the first division this season released by the Slovenia Volleyball Association, Song Min-geun ranked 13th with 58.75 percent of the positive reception ratio.
Ljubljana mainstay Libero Yani Kovacic of Slovenia came in sixth with 63.14 percent. He is a world class defender who is the best seven players at the 31st European Championships in 2019.
Song Min-geun is 47/80 and Yanni Kovacic is 257/407. In other words, the number of defenses in the 2023-24 Slovenian first division was about 80-82% less than that of Ljubljana, but it is very positive that he showed receiving efficiency without much difference.
In 2022, Song Min-geun made his debut in Korean professional volleyball by receiving a rookie nomination for the Incheon Korean Air Jumbos as the seventh pick in the first round of the men’s draft of the V League. The first experience of playing overseas with a world-class libero for five months is expected to be a great foundation for his growth.
