S. Korea casino op GKL’s July sales jump 278 pcty-y

Casino sales of Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) rose 17.0% month-on-month to 28.61 billion won ($21.8 million) in July, it said in a filing with the Korea Exchange on Wednesday.

Compared to the previous year, the improvement rate was 278.0 percent. Last year, Korea’s casino division exclusively for foreign players was constrained by capacity restrictions and inbound travel restrictions. In July 2021, Grand Korea Leisure was forced to suspend operations at its 7-luck brand Gangnam COEX Casino (pictured) in Seoul for several days due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Table game sales for the recently reported month increased 17.8% sequentially to 26.09 billion won, and increased 328.5% year-over-year.

Machine game revenue was 2.52 billion won, up 9.6% from the previous month and 70.3% from July 2021.

Accumulated casino sales for the year to July 31 were 123.35 billion won, up 157.7% year-over-year.

Grand Korea Leisure is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization and is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The casino operator operates three foreigner-only casinos in Korea under the Seven Luck brand. There are two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.
