Macau Loses Michelin Star Despite 2024 List Rookie
The number of Michelin-starred restaurants based at Macau casino resorts has declined from the previous year in the 2024 edition of “Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau.” The annual list of selected restaurants was released on Thursday, with one restaurant losing its three-star status.
The new edition of the guide was announced at a ceremony at the Grand Lisboa Palace in Kotai, a resort promoted by casino company SJM Holdings Ltd. The new overview features 16 restaurants in Macau, down from 17 in the previous year.
For the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macao 2024, Macao’s three-star restaurant is the Jade Dragon of Dreams, a Melco Resort & Entertainment Limited property, and Robuchon au Dome, a French outlet located at the Downtown Grand Lisboa Hotel, which is also operated by SJM Holdings.
The Eight, a Chinese restaurant in Grand Lisboa, was cut to two stars.
Created by renowned chef Zhou Xiaoyan, the Huayang Garden (pictured) was promoted to two stars on this year’s list. The outlet is located at The Londoner Macao, a resort run by Sands China Ltd.
Other two-star restaurants in Macau this year are Alain Ducase of Morpheus, Feng Wei Ju of StarWorld Hotel, a property of Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd., in the city of dreams, and Mizu and Wing Lei of Wyn Macao, run by Wyn Macao Ltd.
Last year’s list included the Sichuan Moon Outlet at Wynn Palace, Wynn Macao Ltd.’s Kotai property. The restaurant is currently closed.
Chef Tam’s Seasons, a Chinese restaurant in Wynn Palace led by chef Tam Kwok Fung, won one Michelin star in this year’s Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau edition.
Also debuting this year with a one-star rating is City of Dreams’ Japanese restaurant Sushi Kinets, which replaced Shinji with a Kanesaka outlet that has been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The other six restaurants with one Michelin star in Macau include Galaxy Entertainment Realty’s 8.1/2 Auto Mezzo – Bombana, Reichn, MGM Kotai’s Sichuan restaurant Five Foot Road, Studio City’s Pearl Dragon at Melco Resort, and Zi Yat Hen at Four Seasons Macau, Sands China’s venue.
Winn Palace wing Ray Palace, which received a Michelin star last year, is now closed and is no longer on the list. Grand Lisboa’s Kitchen is now only mentioned in the so-called “Michelin Select” category, compared to receiving a star last year.
