Macau Hotel Rooms Up 20pc YoY In Q1
Macau’s hotel occupancy rate stood at 84.8% in the first quarter, based on approximately 47,000 rooms. This is its best performance since it achieved an 85.4% occupancy rate in the third quarter of last year, based on 45,693 rooms.
Year-on-year, the number of hotel rooms available in the Macau market for the first three months of 2024 was 19.6% higher than 38,995 in the first quarter of 2023, according to data released by the Macau Statistics Office on Monday.
The figures for the first quarter of 2024 totaled 141 hotels, up 15 from a year earlier.
This quarter’s occupancy rate was 84.8%, up 9.9 percentage points from the same period last year.
Daily room rates for five-, four- and three-star hotels rose 12.9 percentage points, 8.4 percentage points, and 1.7 percentage points, respectively, year-on-year.
Hotel guests were nearly 3.78 million in the first quarter, up 39.7% from a year earlier. That’s up 8.4% over the same period in 2019, before the pandemic, according to the Office for National Statistics.
In the three months to March 31, hotel guests from major markets in mainland China rose 40.1% year-on-year to nearly 2.82 million.
The bureau said the average length of stay for guests was stable at 1.7 nights year-on-year, but “up 0.2 nights compared to the first quarter of 2019.”
