Chinese police say 914 cross-border betting suspects surrendered
A total of 914 residents in mainland China have “surrender” to Chinese authorities because they suspected they were involved in “cross-border gambling offences,” several mainland media reported on Monday, citing China’s Ministry of Security.
The results followed a joint statement in early February calling for three mainland law enforcement agencies to surrender by April 30 or help with judicial investigations into “cross-border gambling.” Authorities said they would consider giving people generosity when dealing with such matters in return.
The ministry was quoted as saying the plan was a “significant success.”
Public Security Bureau departments in Zhejiang, Jilin, Guangdong, Shandong and Anhui provinces have “publicly named” suspects in “certain important cases” related to cross-border gambling allegations and demanded people turn themselves in since the plan began in February, mainland Chinese media reported, citing foreign ministry comments.
China’s revised criminal law, which makes it illegal for those who help “cross-border gambling,” went into effect on March 1 this year. 바카라사이트
The move could further dampen Macau’s VIP gaming business amid the current COVID-19-hit business environment, according to recent comments from Galaxy Entertainment Group Vice Chairman Francis Luigi Tung and comments from Macau’s junket division.
